Search

When the Bible or almost any text publication is open in JW Library a Search button can be found at the top of the screen just below the status bar. It is right of center. It will be the first button after the publication title if there isn't an Audio button. Otherwise it is to the right of the Audio button.

Activate the Search button to find any word or phrase in the currently open publication. The search will not be restricted to the current chapter or section or Bible book. It will search the entire publication.

When you activate the Search button it should open with the Search edit field already active, so you should be able to immediately start typing. use a 2 finger double tap to start dictating. Repeat the 2 finger double tap to stop dictation.

When finished entering what you want to search for activate return on the keyboard whether using the on-screen keyboard, a hardware keyboard or braille display.

VoiceOver focus will be on the Back button when the search is completed. Swipe right to hear what was entered in the search field. If it wasn't what you intended, swipe right to the Clear Text button and activate it. VoiceOver will be placed on the Cancel button, but you can immediately start entering what you want to search for again, because the edit field will be active. Again, activate Return when finished.

Swipe right repeatedly to get to the search results.

The options available in the Study Bible will be a little different from the options available when searching any other publication.

There will be Top Verses and All Verses buttons. When the Top verses button is selected the results will be ordered from most commonly used to least commonly used. Not your usage, but what the publishers of the NWT Study Bible have found to be most commonly used.

If you select the All Verses button the results will be in the order they appear in the Bible.

The articles button will display reference material in the Study Bible that contains that word or phrase instead of the Bible verses that contain it.

After those buttons there is the count of the number of occurrences found.

The final button is "Match Exact phrase." Unfortunately, VoiceOver can't tell you whether it is checked or unchecked. The only way to know is to double tap to toggle it. If the number of occurrences decreases it has been enabled. If the number of occurrences increases it has been disabled. Of course, the number of results will remain the same if you only searched for one word. The only way to gain any understanding of the difference in results is to play with it.

Finally, there is the list of results of your search. If you find what you were looking for in the results you can double tap or activate it to be brought to that result in the publication. VoiceOver focus won't be on the word or phrase found, but it is likely that you will find it on the screen if you touch about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. It behaves like most other actions that cause JW Library to display something specific on the screen, so if you know where that usually is on your device try your usual method for touching the screen in the right place.

Using the back button or a 2 finger scrub will bring you out of the publication and back to the Search results.

If you just wanted to copy a quote that you searched for you can use the VoiceOver copy speech to clipboard command. That is a 3 finger quadruple tap.

So swipe right until you find the search result you wanted then tap 4 times with 3 fingers.

Whatever VoiceOver last said will end up on the clipboard ready to be pasted in any edit field.
